Sophomore year is a critical time to plan for college. It is important for sophomores to take the right courses, plan for your academic career and learn about the college admissions tests, and get involved in school and community activities.
Sophomore Year Services
- Initial consultation explaining the college admissions process to students and parents
- Review of student’s academic and testing history
- Establish realistic expectations for admissions standards, high school coursework and standardized tests
- Create a three-year plan for the student’s academic coursework geared toward making the student a competitive college applicant
- Discuss and explain the importance of standardized tests
- Develop a plan for taking the college admissions tests such as the SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, and ACT + Writing
- Explain the importance of involvement in the school and community activities
- Begin work on the student’s college resume, including extracurricular activities
- Conduct a college preference survey to develop an initial list of colleges that match the student’s personality, desired major, level of academic achievement, and athletic interest
- Establish a list of colleges for the student and parents to begin visiting
