College Service - Senior Year

Senior College Year

During senior year, it is vital for students to know where they plan to apply to college. Applications are due in the fall of the senior year. We will advise students on finding the right college, writing a powerful admissions essay, and taking the necessary college admissions tests.


Senior Year Services

  1. Initial consultation explaining the college admissions process to students and parents
  2. Review of student's academic and testing history
  3. Establish realistic expectations based on admissions standards, high school coursework and standardized test results
  4. Create a two-year plan for the student's academic coursework geared toward making the student a competitive college applicant
  5. Discuss and explain the importance of standardized tests
  6. Develop a plan for taking the college admissions tests such as the SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, and ACT + Writing
  7. Review and explain PSAT test results to students and parents to determine whether test preparation should be considered based on college list and academic achievement
  8. Advise students on test preparation resources such as books, classes with Princeton Review or Kaplan, or private tutoring.
  9. Explain the importance of involvement in school and community activities
  10. Begin work on the student's college resume, including extracurricular activities
  11. Conduct a college preference survey to develop a list of colleges that match the student's personality, desired major, level of academic achievement, and athletic interests
  12. Establish a list of colleges for the student and parents to begin visiting
  13. Discuss importance of teacher and counselor recommendations in application process
  14. Advise student athletes about the recruitment process and about registering with the NCAA Clearinghouse
  15. Begin work on college essays and personal statement
  16. Develop a timeline of college application due dates
  17. Aid students and parents in preparing the paperwork required for teacher recommendations, secondary school reports, and transcripts
  18. Advise students upon completion of each college application
  19. Advise students and parents on completion dates of important financial aid opportunities such as FAFSA, Cal Grant, CSS Profile. and scholarships
